Permit Area History
The permit is located in Ancona and Macerata on the Adriatic coast in central Italy. Geologically it comprises parts of the Marche Apennine thrust front of the Central Apennines. The principal hydrocarbon plays are for biogenic gas in sand bodies in the clastic section and thermogenic gas in the carbonate substratum.
The permit area was previously held by several companies under different titles and six wells were drilled between 1933 and 1993. Two discoveries were made by Agip (Musone-1dir, oil and Moretti-1, gas); neither was developed. Musone-1dir (1981) tested 15°API oil from the interval 1259-1295m in the Scaglia limestone at up to 1170 bpd with variable water content. Moretti-1 (1983) encountered 11m gas pay at 358-369m in the Pliocene Santerno Formation sands; the zone flowed at 0.7 MMscfd.
Recent Permit Activity
The permit was acquired by Apennine Energy in 2010. To date only the Environmental Impact Assessment and G&G data studies have been completed on this permit.
Apennine’s strategy is to develop the Musone oil discovery. Gross P50 contingent resources have been estimated by Fugro-Robertson to be 1.7 MMbo*.
