Permit Area History

Solfara Mare is located in Calabria in the south of Italy. The area falls within the gas-prolific Sibari Basin. The main plays are for gas in Pliocene-Miocene sands.

The area was previously explored by SELM (Montedison) as part of the Mirto Permit. In 1988 Seggio Romano-1discovered gas in sands of the Pliocene Santerno Formation. Gas was recovered from the interval: 513-518m and a flow rate of 1.4 MMscfd was recorded. The well tested a lower compartment of the faulted anticlinal structure and an upper compartment remains to be drilled. Significant gas shows were recorded in six other wells.
