Apennine Energy (Operator) 100.00%
Concession Area History
The concession is located in Ascoli Piceno Province, Marche Region, central Italy. Geologically the area is within the Ancona-Pescara Basin associated with the Central Apennine foredeep.
The Rapagnano-1 gas discovery was made by ENI in 1952. It had produced 116 Mscm (~4.1 Bscf) of gas prior to shut-in in 2001. Initial production was from the lower Sabbie sand level with final production in 1997 of 140,000 scfd. Subsequent production from the upper A2 sand level also achieved 140,000 scfd, but with significant water-cut.
Recent Concession Activity
The concession was returned to the Ministry for re-licensing in 2009 and provisionally awarded to Apennine in July 2011. The ratification of the award is subject to any environmental impact assessment requirements of the Marche Region.
Apennine’s strategy is to put the field back into production. Fugro-Robertson has estimated the gross P50 contingent resources of the Sabbie sand in the Rapagnano field to be 1.1 Bscf*.
