Permit Area History

The permit is located in Pesaro and Rimini in central Italy. Geologically it comprises a thrust-top ‘piggy-back’ basin adjacent to the foredeep trough of the North-Central Apennines. The principal hydrocarbon plays are for biogenic gas in sand bodies in the basal Pliocene-Miocene clastic section.

The permit area is poorly explored. One well (Fiume Foglia-1, P&A) was drilled by SNIA in 1985.

Recent Permit Activity

The permit was acquired by Apennine Energy in 2009. To date only the Environmental Impact Assessment and G&G data studies have been completed on this permit.

Apennine's strategy is to mature leads recognised at 2000-3000m for drilling.  New seismic data will be necessary to define drillable prospects.
