Permit Area History

The permit is located in Potenza in southern Italy, within the Lagonegro-Molise Nappes of the Southern Apennines. The exploration plays are primarily biogenic gas in sand bodies within the allochthonous section and thermogenic gas in the carbonate substratum

The permit area was explored in the 1960s – 1980s under several titles. During this period six wells were drilled. In 1986 Agip drilled the Cicorva-1 well which encountered gas in the interval 818-837m in Pleistocene sands. The zone tested 0.9 MMscfd, but the discovery was not developed.

Recent Permit Activity

The permit was acquired by Apennine Energy in 2010 and Apennine acquired Celtiqe's 50% interest in November 2011.  To date only the Environmental Impact Assessment and G&G data studies have been completed on this permit.

Apennine's strategy is to re-interpret the Cicorva discovery, currently estimated to be ~3 Bscf, and to address additional potential in deeper Pliocene and Mesozoic targets.
