Permit Area History

D148 DR-CS is located in the Gulf of Toranto in the south of Italy. The area falls within the offshore Brandano Basin – a foredeep trough of the Southern Apennines. The main plays are for biogenic gas in the Pliocene sands and thermogenic gas in the Mio-Cretaceous carbonate substratum.

The permit area was previously explored as the ex-D.R 12-AG, D.R67-FI and
D.R70-EM permits by Agip, Fina and Edison Gas in the 1970s to 1990s. Livia-1 (Agip,1980) was drilled to explore Pliocene turbidites beneath the allochthonous front and Metapontum-1 (Fina,1990) was drilled to test a Pliocene seismic flat event. Both wells were dry.  Subsequently, Edison Gas mapped a number of seismic anomalies interpreted to be Pliocene turbidites but none were drilled.

Recent Permit Activity

Apennine Energy was originally assigned the permit in 2009.  To date only G&G data studies have been undertaken on the licence.
